The Freedom of Off-Grid RV Travel: Shore-Power Conveniences Anywhere
Coffee, a microwave, lights, and a laptop off-grid come from a system sized to daily use—not from hoping a generic kit covers every convenience.

Put everyday conveniences into watt-hours
Coffee, a quick microwave meal, a laptop, a fan and evening lights are ordinary comforts. To plan for them off-grid, it helps to separate how much power an appliance draws from how long you run it. Watts multiplied by hours gives watt-hours (Wh).
Example; your numbers will differ. These are illustrative appliance loads, not measurements from your RV or a recommended battery size.
| Load | Watts | Hours/day | Wh/day |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coffee maker | 1,000 | 0.10 | 100 |
| Microwave | 1,200 | 0.15 | 180 |
| Laptop | 60 | 4 | 240 |
| Fan | 30 | 6 | 180 |
| Lights | 20 | 4 | 80 |
| Subtotal | 780 |
The subtotal is not the whole coach
This example leaves out the fridge, water pump, standby loads and conversion losses. Add your own appliances and check their actual input power and run time. Air conditioning is a heavier, separate question; see running an RV air conditioner off-grid.
Peak power matters too. A coffee maker and microwave running together ask more of an inverter than the same appliances used one after the other. Our lithium upgrade guide explains why the battery, inverter and charging equipment have to work as a system.

Compare use with charging
A useful daily budget includes what comes back in. Shade, panel angle, weather and season affect solar charging, so off-grid power is not identical to plugging into a pedestal. Cerbo GX monitoring can help you follow the charging and loads instead of guessing from a battery label.
A capable system can support ordinary conveniences away from hookups, but no system makes an RV maintenance-free. Use the example as a starting worksheet, then bring us the numbers from your own routines.
